Forum on ‘57 Questions that Doctoral Supervisor Worry About’
A forum on ‘57 Questions that Doctoral Supervisor Worry About’ organised by School of Graduate Studies, was launched by YBhg Prof Dato’ Dr Ansary Ahmed, President/CEO, AeU on 17th July 2010. It was very well attended by supervisors, students and members of the public.
In his welcoming remarks YBhg Prof Dato’ Dr Ansary Ahmed, President AeU said that it was a great honour for the university to welcome Prof Dr Miles Barker from the University of Waikato, New Zealand, as the plenary speaker. The forum will stimulate information and knowledge on effective supervision practices for postgraduate students.
On the forum itself, Prof Dr Miles Barker surveyed a list of 57 questions that doctoral supervisors have shared with him on issues that they have found imponderable, tricky or even embarrassing. The questions were grouped under nine headings: acquiring my own students, forming the supervision team, advising how to write the proposal, obtaining ethics approval, supporting my students, deciding on the structure of the thesis, giving feedback on the writing, handling the examination process and examining a thesis.
