An Academic Quality Assurance Workshop by Dr Jan Roodt was held at AeU from 8th-10th October 2010 for staff of AeU and participants from other private universities.

In his welcoming remarks, Prof Dr Mak Chai (Vice President, International and Quality, representing the President) mentioned that it was a great honour for the university to welcome Dr Jan Roodt from the Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec), New Zealand, as the speaker. The workshop will stimulate information and knowledge on effective practices for academic quality assurance for the participants.

The speaker, Dr Jan Roodt, is the International Marketing and Business manager for Middle East and Africa at the Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) in Hamilton, New Zealand. He was until recently Director Quality and Academic at Wintec. Originally from South Africa, Jan has lived in New Zealand since 1995 and has worked in various roles – mainly in the areas of quality assurance, academic management, and risk and legal compliance. His academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy and Higher Diploma in Education. Jan has an in-depth understanding of the New Zealand education sector and is currently an external evaluator for the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

Dr Jan has delivered workshops in quality assurance and academic development to organisations from Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Malaysia and papers at a number of conferences.
